Arrests are pending in two March 1 pawn shop burglaries in Palmetto where 12 handguns were stolen. The recovery of one of the guns was instrumental in cracking the case.

Detective John Cooper said the burglaries occurred March 1 at The Pawn House at 582 Main Street and on March 8 at The Pawn Shop at 202 Fayetteville Road.

Cooper said he received information on one of the handguns from federal ATF agents March 13 after the serial number of one of the stolen guns matched a gun recovered by Union City Police after an arrest for receiving stolen property. That recovery brings the total to two of the 12 handguns stolen, Cooper said.

Further investigation into the burglaries revealed that some of the suspects are juvenile residents of Palmetto, Cooper said. Police have determined the street names of some of those involved in the burglaries, he said. Arrests in connection with the burglaries are pending, Cooper said.

Burglars in the March 1 Pawn House break-in entered by forcing open the store’s front door. Items stolen included 12 handguns and an Xbox video game system, Cooper said.

The March 8 burglary at The Pawn Shop was unsuccessful, Cooper said. Thieves pushed in the Plexiglas on the front door but did not steal any of the store’s contents.

The investigation into the burglaries is ongoing. Anyone with information concerning the burglaries or stolen weapons is asked to contact Det. John Cooper at Palmetto Police Department at (770) 463-9068.
