Georgia Department of Transportation contractor, Archer Western, announces the southbound outside lane on Interstate 85, south of Ga. Highway 34, will be closed each day from 4 a.m. until 4 p.m. from April 9-April 12, beginning at Mile Post 47 south to Mile Post 45. This closure is due to the widening and lane reconstruction project currently underway. Shoulders are also closed in this construction area and extreme caution needs to be observed.

The project is expected to be completed December 31, 2009. During this construction period, motorists can expect shoulder and lane closures on a continuing basis. We apologize for inconveniences, but in order to maintain safety and construction schedules, closures such as this are necessary.

This is a work zone and extreme caution is required. Speed limits have been reduced and will be strictly enforced. Message boards, signs, barricades, barrels and cones will be utilized to alert, and channel motorists through the area. Both personnel and equipment will be on site, and everyone’s safety is our first priority.

Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) seeks to provide information to the traveling public about traffic interruptions on our interstates and state routes. Motorists are encouraged to use the services provided by GDOT’s Transportation Management Center by phoning (404) 635-6800. Operators are on duty 24/7 to provide traffic information, answer questions and alert motorists to any traffic interruption that may occur. Motorists can also check our website at www.georgia-navigator.com for construction alerts, accidents and other traffic interruptions.
