Spring Hill celebrates book revealWed, 04/04/2007 - 2:19pm

Two Spring Hill Elementary first grade classes recently celebrated the unveiling of their published class books. Renee McIver and Valerie Young’s students have been busy writing stories about penguins. Each student wrote a story and drew an illustration to accompany their narrative. Students participated in contests to create a cover design and a title for their class book and voted to select the winners. After compiling all the work, teachers sent the manuscripts to a publishing company who turned these first grade stories into hardback books. Parents and administrators were invited to commemorate the presentation of these very special books during McIver’s Author’s Tea and Young’s Special Brunch. Students took turns reading their stories or sharing excerpts to encourage further reading of their tale. Parents and students then had time to share the books together, looking at the pictures and reading each other’s stories. “The increase in student’s confidence in writing was phenomenal. All of the students were motivated to write,” said Young. “I will do this project again next year.” login to post comments |
