At a meeting of the congregation Sunday, March 25, members of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville issued a call to the Rev. Thomas L. Myers to become their senior pastor.

The church’s Pastor Search Committee began seeking the right person for the position after the departure of the former pastor of 18 years. More than 40 applications for the position were reviewed before extending an invitation to Myers.

The congregation held a church-wide covered dish dinner and an open question and answer time on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning, Myers delivered the message at the morning worship service. After the service a congregational meeting was held in which the members voted to extend a call.

“The vote was overwhelmingly positive to extend the call to Rev. Myers to become the new senior pastor of Covenant Church,” said Ross Cook, chairman of the pastor search committee.

The call of the congregation will be submitted to the Metro Atlanta Presbytery for approval at its April 17 meeting. This will allow Myers to officially begin his ministry at Covenant on Sunday, April 22.

Myers, age 50, is a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary and has served in ministry for 23 years beginning as a youth pastor in Florida and serving as senior pastor in churches in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina.

“I have never seen such excitement among our members as we are about having Tom Myers as our new pastor,” said Covenant member Doug Mickey. “This is going to be an exciting place to worship.”
