Seven arrested in Fairburn shooting face 70 charge

A March 18 incident at a residence in Fairburn where two people were injured as approximately 100 rounds were fired into the two-story house came to a quick conclusion by March 22 with seven arrests on 70 felony charges and multiple weapons confiscated.

Three adults and four juveniles face a total of 70 felony charges in the incident that filled the 915 Fellowship Road residence with bullet holes. Perhaps miraculously, only two of the seven people inside the house were injured, said Chief Charles Long. Those injured included a 20 year-old man shot in the lower leg and a 17 year-old male who shot in the arm, he said.

Charged in the incident were 17 year-old Christopher Yem, of Morrow, 18 year-old College Park resident Narun Srey and 18 year-old Willie Men, of Riverdale, according to Det. Lt. J.T. Rogers. Also charged were four juvenile males from Forest Park, all ages 15 and 16, he said. All are of Asian descent.

Each of the seven were charged with seven counts of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, Rogers said, noting that all but one confessed to the shooting.

Fairburn Police, assisted by other jurisdictions, also seized a variety of weapons, such as an AK-47, Rogers said. Investigators at the scene March 18 recovered rounds from a 7.62x39mm assault-type rifle along with rounds from .380, 9mm and .40-caliber handguns and an 18-gauge shotgun, Long said. In all, approximately 100 shots were fired into the two-story home, Long said.

Rogers said the March 18 shooting was precipitated by an prior altercation between two of those arrested and a resident at the Fellowship Road residence. Those individuals saw the resident again in Union City on the day of the shooting, Rogers said.

Yem had recently lived in Fairburn in close proximity to the 915 Fellowship Road residence.
