Offshoot Productions’ artistic director Susan M. Steadman, Ph.D. is delighted to be teaching once again at the Tyrone Recreation Department. There are two lively acting classes on tap this spring: “Acting Off the Cuff” for children in first through fifth grade, and “Welcome to the Stage,” designed especially for home-schoolers aged 8 to 16.

“Acting Off the Cuff” meets on Mondays, from 3:30-4:30 p.m., from April 9 to May 14 (with no class April 30). Participants will explore the exciting world of improvisation with theatre games and creative dramatics. This class is suitable for newcomers to acting as well as those with some experience.

“Welcome to the Stage” will take place on Fridays, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., from April 13 to May 11 (with no class April 27). This home-schoolers’ class, which helps build confidence both on stage and off, incorporates improvisation, theatre games and written scripts.

The fee for each class is $50.

Steadman, who has been teaching acting and directing shows for professional, educational and community theatre for over three decades, holds a Ph.D. in Theatre from Louisiana State University and an M.A. in Educational Theatre from New York University. She has served as artistic director of Offshoot Productions, the oldest professional theatre on the southside, since its inception in 1993.

The Tyrone Recreation Department is located at the Roger Spencer Community Center, 145 Commerce Drive. For registration information, call Tyrone Recreation at 770-487-4694 or send an email to tyronerec@numail.org. For information on class content, contact Steadman at 770-631-2362 or offshootpr@aol.com.
