Fayette Christian students place at state competitionTue, 03/27/2007 - 11:30am

Nearly 1,300 students from member schools of the Georgia Association of Christian Schools (GACS) participated in the annual state academic, Bible, and fine arts competition which culminated on March 12 and 13 at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Ga. Competition was conducted in numerous categories including vocal and instrumental music, speech, science projects, art, spelling, Bible memory and quizzing, and many areas of academic testing. Thirty-nine students from Fayette Christian School participated, and awards on the state level were presented to many of those students. These students include: Andre Carr, Junior High Brass Solo- second; Briana Davis, JH Acrylic Painting- first; Sekayi Fernandes, JH Black & White Photography- second, JH Calligraphy- second; Stefon Joseph, JH Digital Media- first, JH Monochromatic Drawing- third, JH Polychromatic Drawing- first; Tyler McKinney, JH Mixed Media- second, JH Printmaking- first; Divad Miles, JH Oral Interpretation of Scripture- second; Kaelah Brock, Senior High Printmaking- third; Joycelynn Foster, SH Oil Painting- third, SH Watercolor Painting- third; Toby Parham, SH Woodworking- second; and the SH Choric Speaking Team- Kaelah Brock, Latesha Bullock, Olivier Fidelia, Simone Hargrave, David King, Anna Monroe, David Moye, Toby Parham, Rodney Reaves, Kezia Sellars, Amanda Whiddon, and Andrew Wood. Two students, Toby Parham and Kaelah Brock, will represent FCS and the state of Georgia at the Nationals Competition at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina in April. In addition to the state awards, all 39 students received Excellent or Superior ratings in their subject areas. The Georgia Association of Christian Schools has a membership of more than 70 Christian schools throughout the state enrolling over 12,000 students. The state fine arts and academic competition has been conducted since 1976. The association also sponsors interscholastic athletics and other activities including an annual standardized achievement testing program, state teachers’ conventions, administrators’ seminars, Christian school honor society, Christian college scholarships, and other programs, the school accreditation program of GACS is approved by the Georgia Department of Education and Board of Regents. login to post comments |
