Take action: Lowe's on southsideIt is IMPORTANT to remember several things when considering the future vote the PTC Council has on the south 74 retail (Lowe's) project. 1. It is a rezoning that GOES AGAINST THE CITY'S LAND USE PLAN. The beauty of rezoning is in most all cases cities DON'T have to do it. I'll dip into my legal department for the P-word here. As in PRECEDENT. (Even this council is slightly cognizant of setting bad legal precedents, if you can believe that). 2. To qualify for a rezoning, part of the evidence necessary to buttress a court claim is that the property can't be sold as currently zoned. BUT the owner's son stated at the planning commission that the property hadn't been marketed for industrial use because they didn't want a "bad neighbor" for the Wilshire residents. 3. Just because the Airport folks don't want homes there doesn't mean that will fly (sorry, couldn't resist). Inside dope is that the mayor ain't too happy with the wing_nuts over the Chick-fil-A birds being grounded. AND when the last residential rezoning came up, it was the Steve Brown council that turned it down. 4. No matter what happens to this parcel, Holly Grove Road is likely to get stuck with a TON of cut-thru traffic from sleepy Senoia due to the 74 widening. Better hope the new bridge goes up pretty quick once they start the southern leg of 74 (oh yeah, they're realigning the road between WASA and Publix). the_assassin's blog | login to post comments |
