Senoia residents may soon to able to purchase a Happy Meal in their own backyard.

During Tuesday night’s meeting of the Senoia Planning Commission, city administrator Richard Ferry updated the commission members on the restaurant giant’s efforts to build a combination McDonald’s and gas station in Senoia.

The company is looking at a tract of land at the intersection of Ga. Highways 85 and 16, that used to be home to a paintball location. Ferry said McDonald’s did not need to have it approved by the City Council, since the site was already zoned properly. But, company officials ran into a small snag.

“When the company pulled a survey, they discovered that an arc of land that runs through the property has been owned by the Department of Transportation since 1949,” Ferry said.

The DOT-owned property runs through the buffer that McDonald’s would have to build to separate it from adjacent property. The company could use berms as a way of buffering the property, but that is something the company will have to decide. Ferry said he’s meeting with company officials March 30 to discuss the possible options.

“They’ve really worked hard to try and make this work,” he said.
