Soccer teams get W’s in slow weekThu, 03/22/2007 - 2:43pm

It was a relatively slow week in soccer, thus far, with not every team playing. Starr’s Mill’s boys (7-1-3), ranked second in AAAA, got a 4-0 win over Northside, Columbus on Tuesday night. Gray Phelps scored two goals and Chris Capati and Colin Mallon each had a goal and an assist. They will host Northgate at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers (6-2-1), ranked fifth, will take on Northgate, ranked 10th, next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Northgate’s boys and girls both got wins at Lovejoy on Wednesday night. The boys (9-4) won 6-1 and the girls (10-2) won 7-0. The boys got two goals from Corey Vaughan, and one a piece from Casey Vaughan, Taurean Philpott, Brandon Wilson and Olumide Aklomede. East Coweta’s boys and girls both got region wins over Hiram on Tuesday night. The boys won 1-0 and the girls won 6-1. Andrea Dawson had two goals for the girls, while Heather Pierce, Danielle Dawson, Chelsea Hise and Gayle Bell each scored one. Michael Rabun scored the lone goal in the boys game. The Lady Indians also went 3-0 in last weekend’s East Coweta tournament, beating Spalding 3-2, Carrollton 4-1 and Harris County 4-1. Andrea Dawson had four goals in the tournament, while Amber Wright and Pierce each had two goals. The boys went 2-1 in the tournament, losing 2-1 to Spalding but beating Carrollton 1-0 and Harris County 7-1. East Coweta’s boys (8-4) and girls (10-2) host Newnan tomorrow at 6 and 8 p.m. with the girls playing first. McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs (7-4), ranked sixth in AAAA, defeated the second ranked St. Pius team 2-0 on Wednesday night. They will play at Marist, ranked third, tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. The boys (9-0-2), ranked first, played at Chamblee Thursday night after the paper went to press and will play at Marist, ranked fourth, on Saturday at 4 p.m. Whitewater’s boys (4-3), ranked sixth in AAAA, defeated Westlake 15-0 on Wednesday night. The Lady Wildcats (4-3-1), ranked fourth, lost to ninth ranked Salem 2-0 on Tuesday. The boys and girls will play at Woodward Academy tomorrow with the girls playing at 5:30 p.m. and the boys playing afterwards. Woodward’s girls are ranked first in AAAA and the boys are ranked eighth. login to post comments |
