Logsdon has prepared for leading PTC

Thank you for hearing me in your forum. I actually had the privilege to meet Mr. Logsdon and hear him speak in a small meeting put on by a supportive neighbor. His explanation for seeking office and his status as a neophyte politician were very acceptable to me.

What stuck with me is that he gave his pursuit of elective office great thought, around a year, then sought out experts who could guide him through his first campaign.

He spoke of his experience as an auditor and of coming up through the ranks in life, which to me meant that he was more of a technician of finance than an entrepreneur (risk taker) and much more of a leader than most people I hear.

He asked for an opportunity to apply his experience to the problems created in our city over the past years and to see if he could solve them. He was not overbearing and not so polished an orator for that matter.

I think his lack of showmanship and political grandstanding are representative of a man working within himself and not trying to fool anyone with posturing.

There were only a dozen or so of us in the room, so to win over 40 percent of the votes of our citizens not too busy to do so, he must have made some similar impression on several thousands of citizens who did vote. I’d like to give him his opportunity to lead and to serve our community.

By contrast, I’ve never met Mr. Brown in person, but I’ve seen him perform a couple of times. His public disrespect of a fellow employee cost him a chance for my vote. I get the impression that he sees a need to stay on the payroll to keep trying to solve some lingering problems rather than actually solving the problems and moving on to other interests.

As for debating an empty chair, weren’t most people decided on their choice in the general election?

For those that haven’t been keeping up, I guess a rehash of the issues is due, but candidate attendance should be optional and without the meaningless and personal bashing Mr. Logsdon took in last week’s paper.

No wonder the good guys don’t run for office. Add to that the unsigned opinion section of the paper. Use that space for more advertising during the seasons of elections and major employer bankruptcies. On second thought ...

Yes, politics seems to be about power, but if leading our community (and our nation) were more about service and much, much less about self, most of our community’s problems and a lot of our nation’s problems would have been solved long ago.
