There won’t be additional office space on Dogwood Trail in tyrone in the near future.

For the second time in two years, the Town Council Thursday night turned down a proposal to rezone 632 Dogwood Trail from R-42, Single Family Residential to Office Institution. The property is near the Marketplace office complex at the intersection of Dogwood Trail and Ga. Highway 74.

Representatives of Russell Jones, who owns the property, told the Council that the property had been on the market for more than a year and no one has expressed interest in purchasing the property for a residential use.

“The best use of this property is office,” said realtor Chip Barron.

But the residents who are near the property strongly disagreed.

“There is already a well-defined demarcation between office and residential,” said Nancy Nebergall.

John Watkins, who lives at 120 Meadowood Lane, was adamantly opposed to the proposal.

“Our property values will take a hit,” she said.

The Town Council agreed with residents and unanimously turned down the rezoning.
