Sandy Creek High School drama and chorus departments will take stage March 22-25 for four performances of the beloved Broadway classic, “West Side Story.” Based on Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet” and set in the West Side of New York City in the 1950s, “West Side Story” centers around Tony and Maria, a pair of star-crossed lovers. The show features some of the most timeless music ever written for the musical theatre, songs such as "Maria," "Somewhere," "America," and "I Feel Pretty." The story deals with issues that today’s youth can relate to including that of young love, finding your place in the world, and rival groups. This show boasts one of the largest casts in a musical at Sandy Creek, and most actors will sing and dance as well as act. Community members can catch one of three evening performances on March 22, 23 and 24 at 7 p.m. or the Sunday matinee on March 25 at 2:30 p.m. The show will be held in Patriot Hall at Sandy Creek High School. Advance tickets will be on sale Monday through Wednesday, March 19-21 in the Sandy Creek cafeteria. Tickets also will be available at the door 30 minutes before curtain time. Some children may find the show lengthy or disturbing, so parents are encouraged to take this under consideration before purchasing tickets. For a great evening of comedy, romance, and tragedy, come out and see Sandy Creek High School’s “West Side Story.” login to post comments |
