On May 5, 2006, a fun event will be held at McIntosh High School from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. called Pet Prep 101. The day will be dedicated to teaching people all about pets and has been arranged by Jessica Lasseter as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award Project. The scheduled activities will include demonstrations on different kinds of pets, dog training, animal grooming, veterinary care and a visit from an adoption team. Area businesses will be represented and learning stations will be set up with speakers on various topics. Admission is $4 per person plus a donation of a canned dog or cat food item to benefit the Fayette County Animal Shelter.

Lasseter’s Gold Award project also includes a Pet Prep 101 Photography Contest that will be open to all Fayette County residents including students in elementary school, middle school, and high school. Entries must be 5x7 depicting the pet theme. Photos can be color or black and white and they must have an entry form attached to the back of the picture. The photographs will be judged by a panel of art/photography professionals and the top three winners in each category will have their photographs backed and matted.

The winning photographs will be on display on May 5, during Pet Prep 101 activities. Entries must be postmarked by Wednesday, April 11 and mailed to: Pet Prep 101, 702 Alderly Lane, Peachtree City, Ga. 30269.
