Baseball teams seek wins before region schedule begins

Whitewater’s varsity baseball team split at “Bash at the Beach” this weekend, losing to Alexander 7-6 in eight innings but defeating Brunswick 6-2.

Lewallen got the loss against Alexander.
“He pitched a great game and deserved a better fate,” said Coach Frank Dixon. “Once again the errors did us in.”

Lewallen, Justin Carpenter and Josh Henley each had two hits in the game.

In the Brunswick game, the two teams stayed close until the Wildcats scored four runs in the fifth inning. Lewallen led off with a single, Ryan Johnson doubled and Carpenter followed with a triple. Later, Miles Head drew a walk with two outs and Heine Rivera hit a double and drove in the run. Carpenter got the win, pitching six innings and striking out six batters, while Tom Bohrer pitched the seventh. Whitewater outhit the Pirates 13-3.

Whitewater (2-2) will play at Dutchtown on Friday and at Warner Robins on Saturday.
Fayette County made up their rained out game with Griffin on Friday and lost 7-6 in eight innings. The Tigers saw a 6-0 lead evaporate in the seventh. Matthew Jackson got the loss. On Saturday, Fayette County played two games at LaGrange, losing the first game 4-3 and losing the second game 6-3. Sean Finn got the loss in the first game, giving up three earned runs, striking out three batters and walking two. Barack Little got the loss in the second game. He also gave up three earned runs, while striking out five and walking three.

The Tigers (0-3) played at Jonesboro last night and will play ay East Coweta tonight.

McIntosh improved to 2-0 with a 14-2 win over Paideia on Saturday. Brent Hardy was the winning pitcher for the Chiefs, who capitalized on good base running, stealing eight bases in the win. Nick Markhardt went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, while John Smith and Futoshi Murasawa both had RBIs as well.

McIntosh hosted Forsyth Central last night and will play at Alpharetta today at 5:45 p.m.

Sandy Creek’s boys defeated Starr’s Mill 8-5 last Friday. The Patriots were led by Braxton Lane and Duncan Midkiff, both of whom went 2-for-4 at the plate. Lane also had two stolen bases. Nathan Bowen got the win in his first varsity start and Blake Brewer earned his second save of the season. The Patriots lost to Northgate 8-1 on Monday. Kody Dodd scored the lone run for Sandy Creek in the first inning.
Sandy Creek (2-2) will play at East Coweta on Friday. Starr’s Mill (0-1) hosted Newnan last night and will play at Milton at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Our Lady of Mercy’s boys faced Mt. Zion, Carroll on Monday night and tied 10-10. The game was called due to lack of daylight.
Junior pitcher struck out four batters for the Bobcats, while William Pearl led the team with an on-base percentage of 1.000 and Daniel Boccella hit a three RBI triple. The Bobcats (0-0-1) will play at Athens Christian on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Landmark Christian (0-1) played at Bremen last night after the paper went to press. They will play at Our Lady of Mercy next Monday and will host the Bobcats next Tuesday.
