Neighborhood Alliance keeps pressure on town hallMon, 03/05/2007 - 9:22am

It was a familiar sight to many at Tyrone’s Town council meeting Thursday night. Don Rehwaldt, who represents the Tyrone Neighborhood Alliance, walked to the podium and presented the town council with a list of concerns from the watchdog group. Rehwaldt is keeping a spreadsheet of the 17 items and is concerned that the items still remain unresolved after months of discussion. “Barry, can you update us on these concerns?” asked Councilman Grace Caldwell. Town manager Barry Amos said he would be providing written responses to all of Rehwaldt’s concerns to the council, but addressed three of the issues that were of most concern to the group. The first issue was a secondary emergency exit to Shamrock Industrial park. Amos said he fully understood the severity of the situation and said the town is letting the issue be resolved by developer Howard Guthrie. the estimated cost of a secondary road is $187,000 and amos said the town has refused the final plat for any further development until Guthrie builds the road at no cost to the taxpayers. The next issue amos addressed was the signage at the Dollar General store and Triangle park. the alliance is concerned the signs don’t meet the existing sign ordinance, but Amos disagreed. While the Dollar General sign is taller than the allowed six feet, Amos said the the ordinance measures the height in relationship to the surrounding ground. Because of the topography at the Dollar General site, the store is allowed a taller sign. As far as the Triangle Park sign, Amos said the portion of the sign ordinance that addressed monument signs was repealed in 1997. The final issue concerned the voting on the new John Wieland subdivision in May, 2005. The alliance maintains the vote was not recorded properly and needs a public correction. In response, Amos said two separate votes were taken on the residential and office portions of the property, and the minutes are correct. Amos pledged to bering the Town council more written reports on the other issues after staff had time to research them. login to post comments |
