2007 high school baseball season has teams off and running

Several baseball teams started their season on Wednesday afternoon.

McIntosh opened with a 12-7 win over North Atlanta. The Chiefs (1-0) got three RBI from Eric Weiss, two from Nick Markhardt and one from Brent Hardy. Brendan Harris scored three runs, Cameron Rich added two and Johnny Peaden had one hit. Andrew Austin was the winning pitcher, going three and two-third, striking out seven and allowing three hits. Rich went two and a third, struck out five and also gave up three hits. Mike Thomason pitched an inning, struck out two and didn’t give up a hit.

McIntosh will play at Riverwood on Saturday and will host Forsyth Central on Tuesday.
Landmark Christian opened the season with a 4-0 loss to Woodward Academy. Brandon Belveal only gave up one run through five innings, but Woodward added three more runs late. Coach Phil Williams cited good at bats from Ryan Lloyd and Kyle Wren. The War Eagles (0-1) will play at Bremen on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Sandy Creek’s Patriots (1-1) lost to East Coweta 6-2. The winning pitcher for the Indians was Rico Reid, while Casey Keubler and Cam Bedrosian each pitched an inning of relief. Chris Ramos had two hits for East Coweta and Jeremy Capshaw, Ben Inman and Reid each had one. East Coweta will host Jonesboro tonight at 6 p.m. and will play at Sprayberry on Monday at 6 p.m. The Patriots will host Starr’s Mill on Friday at 7 p.m.

Whitewater (1-1) beat Eagle’s Landing 13-2 in five innings. Heine Rivera hit two doubles, Ryan Johnson had a three RBI, in the park homerun and Josh Henley went 2-for-3. Kevin Lewallen was the winning pitcher. The Wildcats play at Alexander today at 4 p.m.

Northgate’s boys will play at Troup today at 5:30 p.m. and will host Sandy Creek at 5 p.m. on Monday.
