The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Fayette County that will expire at 9 p.m. tonight.

The watch coincides with predicted thunderstorm activity all across the southern United States today.

A tornado watch means that conditions are ideal for a tornado to be formed. A tornado warning means one has actually been spotted in the area.

To seek shelter from a tornado, residents should go to a basement or to an interior room of the house that doesn't have any windows.
