• Darrell Burston, a Starr’s Mill graduate playing for Florida State, had one assist in their 34-7 loss to Florida.

• John Deraney, a Fayette County graduate playing for NC State, kicked two field goals (38, 29) and two extra points in the Wolfpack’s 20-14 win over Maryland.

• Andrew Gardner, a Sandy Creek graduate, started for Georgia Tech in their 14-7 loss to the University of Georgia.

• Kedric Golston, a Sandy creek graduate playing for the University of Georgia, had one assist in their 14-7 win over Georgia Tech.

• Reuben Houston, a Starr’s Mill graduate playing for Georgia Tech, had one tackle and one pass break-up in their 14-7 loss to the University of Georgia.

• Chris James, a Starr’s Mill graduate playing for Western Kentucky University, made Honorable Mention Academic All-Conference and first team All-Conference as the placekicker. James connected on 15 of 17 field goals with a long of 52 yards. He also went 42 of 42 on extra points.

• Kenneth James, a Starr’s Mill graduate playing at Shorter College, finished fiffth on the team with overall tackles this season.

• Calvin Johnson, a Sandy Creek graduate playing for Georgia Tech, had two catches for 14 yards and a touchdown in their loss to the University of Georgia.

Johnson, Tech’s sensational sophomore wide receiver, was one of two unanimous first-team selections, along with Wake Forest running back Chris Barclay.

Johnson leads Tech with 52 catches for 869 yards and six touchdowns, despite facing constant double teams, and he has been called the best receiver in the nation by several analysts, including ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso and Bob Davie. Johnson made the all-ACC first-team for the second straight year.
