Southern Regional Health System (SRHS), in partnership with the Fayette County Partners in Education Program, will participate in the ninth annual National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Day on March 2, 2007. In an effort to continue serving the communities of the Southern Crescent, the “Reading Ambassadors” of SRHS will visit local elementary schools to read to students in celebration of this special day of learning. NEA launched the Read Across America campaign in 1997. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss, beloved children’s author. Seuss, who epitomizes a love of learning, makes use of rhymes and unforgettable characters in his books as an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they need to be successful. NEA’s Read Across America Day expects more than 45 million readers, both young and old, to pick up a book and read. To honor the good doctor and celebrate the fun and value of reading, Southern Regional is asking you to join NEA and many of America’s leading literacy, youth, and civic groups in bringing a nation of readers together under one hat-the red and white stovepipe made famous by the Cat in the Hat-for a flurry (or furry) of reading excitement! login to post comments |
