“Walking Through Our Glorious Century” is the theme of the activities program for Heritage of Peachtree residents this year. Beginning with the year 1900 in January and extending through 2000 in November, each month will be a different decade to remember, explore and discuss.
1900 saw Theodore Roosevelt as president at the “Dawn of the 20th Century.” Heritage of Peachtree resident, Joyce Woznica, recently conducted a discussion group centered around pictures, articles and journals compiled from her mother’s scrapbooks of the early 1900s in New York.

Journal entries outlining the day-to-day living conditions gave everyone a bird’s eye view of exactly what it was like to have lived then. Priceless family pictures brought out of “safe keeping” were passed around for everyone to reminisce over.

Several display cases throughout the building hold a variety of “1900s” items. One case holds a vintage blouse worn by a young woman in California in early 1900. Another holds antique kitchen implements and a 1900 cookbook, while yet another holds baby and children’s items.
February will be the decade of 1910 and William H. Taft. March will usher in the “Roaring ’20s” and Woodrow Wilson.

April is 1930 with Herbert Hoover, May is the 1940s and Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman.

June will be the 1950s with Dwight D. Eisenhower, while July’s focus is the 1960s with John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson.
August will look at the 1970s Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, while September is the 1980s Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.

October is Bill Clinton and the 1990s. November is George Bush II for 2000.

Throughout each month, there will be a variety of opportunities to give residents a chance to show off their personal memorabilia for the decades.

Themed activities such as “dress up day,” scavenger hunts, special movies and trivia contests will be featured each month.
February will feature a “Gold Medal Bake-off” to commemorate the beginning of the Gold Medal Flour Company in 1910.
