Sandy Creek starts baseball season with a win

In the first game of the high school baseball season, Sandy Creek defeated Whitewater 5-2.

Duncan Midkiff got the win for the Patriots, giving up six hits and striking out eight batters. The Patriots got two RBI from Brandon Swann and one from Arthur Owens. Craig Carroll also had two hits. Nathan Bowen earned the save.
Justin Carpenter went three and a third innings for the Wildcats, giving up two hits, four walks and an earned run. Colin Wooddy put out the fire for Whitewater, striking out two and giving up a hit and Nick Nieves pitched the seventh, striking out two batters as well.

Sandy Creek will host East Coweta today at 5:30 p.m. and Whitewater will host Eagle’s Landing at the same time. The Patriots will host Starr’s Mill in their first game of the season on Friday at 7 p.m.

Whitewater will take on Alexander on the road at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Starr’s Mill is ranked fifth in AAAA in the first GaSports.com coaches poll and Whitewater is ranked ninth.

In other games this week, Landmark Christian will face Woodward Academy today at 4:30 p.m., while McIntosh will host North Atlanta at 5:30 p.m. before an away game at Paideia on Saturday.

Fayette County will start their season with a home game against Griffin tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. before a double-header at Lagrange on Saturday. Our Lady of Mercy starts their season with a home game tomorrow against Athens Christian at 4 p.m.
