A Fayetteville man working in Tennessee on a construction job was stabbed to death early Saturday morning, police said.

Police said Richard Lee Shanklin, 31, was killed after he had an altercation with another man as they drove on Highway 11 East in Sullivan County, police said. That man, Casey Joseph Britt, 32, told detectives with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office that he stabbed Shanklin and then dumped the body in the mountain area, police said.

Britt was charged with second degree murder, police said.

Shanklin had been staying in a hotel in Elizabethton, Tenn. at the time of his death, police said.
