Will the far stretches of northern Coweta County and south Fulton County soon have their own WalMart?

residents should have a better idea after the Coweta County Commission hears a variance request from retail giant March 6. County zoning technician Michelle Ward said the store is seeing a variance on buffer requirements for the store that would locate on Sharpsburg-McCollum Road, next to Interstate 85.
The site is next to a county water tower that is zoned Rural Reserve. She explained WalMart’s property is zoned C-7, Commercial, which requires a 75 ft. buffer from the nearest rural reserve property. WalMart is seeking a reduction of the buffer to 25 ft. near the water tower.

Ward explained the preliminary site plan calls for a 176,000 sq.ft. store, but questions still surround how big the store would be and how many parking places would surround the center.

Other planning staff indicated two different site plans had been submitted in December, and the county staff sent questions back to the nation’s top-grossing retailer in January. But the questions have yet to be answered, and staff is hoping WalMart will submit the answers before the March 6 zoning hearing.
The hearing will begin at 6 p.m. at the Commission chambers on Perry Street in Newnan.
