The Newnan Kiwanis meeting was filled with young, smiling faces on Tuesday, Jan. 30, as the club was visited by local sponsored youth groups. Representatives were on hand from the Newnan High School Key Club, Heritage High School Key Club, Rutledge Aktion Club, Moreland Elementary School K-Kids and Western Elementary School K-Kids.
Each group gave a short report on some of their activities and projects throughout the year, which included bake sales to raise funds for worthy causes, visits to nursing homes and participation in the can-a-thon. The clubs have donated time and money to such community organizations as The American Red Cross, Angel House, March of Dimes and UNICEF.
Kiwanis International sponsors several service clubs for young people: Circle K International has 13,000 members on 500 university and college campuses in 13 nations; Key Club International has 234,000 members in over 4,700 high schools; and Builders Clubs have been organized in more than 1,500 junior high and middle schools.
