Fayette students participate in cell phone drive

Fayette County students are learning something valuable that’s not always found in a textbook: community service and compassion for those less fortunate.

Fayette County School Superintendent Dr. John DeCotis, recently approved a cell phone drive that is being implemented in several schools throughout the county that will benefit the children who reside on campus at Christian City.

Each school has been invited to participate by having the students collect used cell phones that will be sent to a recycling company in exchange for dollars. Funds raised will support the many ministries Christian City offers to abandoned and abused children.  The classroom in each school with the most cell phones collected by March 1, will win an ice cream sundae party.

Christian City has been providing loving, safe homes for children since they opened the first cottage to eight little boys on Valentine's Day 1965.

Construction is now underway to build a new Children's Village to better accommodate the changing needs of the children in their care. As a nonprofit, nondenominational organization, Christian City also serves seniors, the elderly and the infirm on their beautiful 500 acre campus located off Lester Road in Union City.
