Charming children’s play debuts in MarchWed, 02/21/2007 - 5:34pm
By: The Citizen
“The Fairy Tale Project,” a company-created participation play for children, will debut March 8-11 at the Roger Spencer Community Center in Tyrone. This exciting Offshoot Productions presentation is indicative of the company’s growing activity in play development. In the past two seasons, several new scripts have been brought to the stage by this Fayette County-based professional theatre company, including “But Was It Murder?” “The Frog Prince” and “Audition for Murder.” “We’re not only enthusiastic about but also committed to bringing new works to the stage,” said artistic director Susan M. Steadman, Ph.D. “Combined with our classical offerings, most recently Shakespeare's ”Tempest” and “Comedy of Errors,” we stretch our actors and provide the community with enjoyable and stimulating experiences.” An ensemble piece, “The Fairy Tale Project” covers a dozen or more stories in eye-opening fashion. Whether it’s a story told from the villain’s point of view, a character who sings all her lines, actors performing roles assigned by the audience, or even an audience-“written” story, the overall experience will delight young minds and engage children’s imaginations. Original music and colorful costume pieces enhance the experience for the audience. Performances are slated for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 8; 10 a.m. on Friday, March 9; 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 10; and 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 11. Tickets, which are $7 ($6 for children 12 and under), go on sale in February at the Peachtree City Library, 201 Willowbend Road, 770-631-2520; the Roger Spencer Community Center; and online at www.offshoot.org. Special rates are available for groups of 15 or more. Following the Tyrone performances, the troupe will tour the show to libraries, schools, camps and other venues. This is the fourth such tour Offshoot has undertaken in the last two years.
