Loraine Smitherman Stovall

Loraine Smitherman Stovall, 85, Fayetteville, died Feb. 3, 2007. She was born June 19, 1921 in Jefferson County, Ala. and spent her early years in Birmingham and Vance. She was graduated from Brookwood High School at the age of sixteen. She married Clarence W. Stovall in 1945, becoming a military wife. She loved the traveling military lifestyle fulfilling a dream of living in Europe, the Orient, and various areas of the United States. She moved to the Atlanta area in 1963 and worked at the Atlanta Army Depot and also the main office of the Small Business Administration in Atlanta. She retired from the Federal government as the GS-13 level with 30 years of service. She moved to Fayetteville in 1994, where she continued to be active with the Civitans, her church and her family. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Bob Partridge, the Rev. Dan Wiggins, and the Rev. David Gill officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include a son, David Stovall; daughters, Linda Kornegay, Dr. Donna and Eric Urstadt, and Janan Hogan; grandchildren, Sharon and David Lewis, Robert and Holly Kornegay, Mandy and Jeff Greenway, Brandy Urstadt, Mychia Hogan, Courtney Stovall, and Kristi Allen; great-grandchildren, Emily and Jacob Lewis, Paige Kornegay, and Caleigh Hogan; brothers, Sam Smitherman, and Bobby Smitherman; and sisters, Jackie Stephens, and Anne Slaton. Memorial donations may be made to the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, 175 East Lanier Avenue, Fayetteville, GA 30214. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
