FCHS Sports Hall of Fame Dinner, March 3

The Sixth Annual Fayette County High School Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at the high school. The Hall of Fame honors and recognizes individuals that have made a significant contribution to the school as well as to the city of Fayetteville and Fayette County, Ga.

This year’s athletic inductees include Eric Addie-Basketball, Keith Brownlee-Baseball, Genie Leonard Dzenis-Soccer, Robert Lewis, Jr.-Baseball, and Greg Woodward-Baseball.
The board of directors for the hall makes the selections and Don Apking, Trigg Dalrymple, Terri Gapierik, Norman Hart, III, Addison Lester, Howell McElroy, Tommy Mitchell, Gary Phillips, and Dr. Charles Warr. Fred Edwards represents the Black and Gold Committee for distinguished alumni, Fayette County Historian Carolyn Cary is the Media Advisor and Len & Jane Gough are the Event Managers.

Dalrymple, the committee chair, observed that the past inductees have been excellent choices and very successful in later lives. He said that the previous induction ceremonies have been well attended and enjoyed by the recipients, their families, and guests. “We look forward to another enjoyable night to honor the 2007 inductees,” he concluded.

The Hall of Fame also recognizes distinguished alumni who have made contributions outside the sports arena. The honorees for 2007 include WalMart Vice-Chairman Mike Duke, Peachtree City Founder Floy Farr and long-time Fayetteville City Manager John “Doc” Lester.

“Recognition as a Distinguished Alumnus is an honor which few achieve. Our past recipients have come from every walk of life and have had a profound influence shaping thousands of lives in this community, state, nation and world,” said Fred Edwards, Chair of the Black and Gold Selection Committee.

Other committee members are Terry Green Bryant, Sue Ellen Gable, Rose Walker Harris, and Janet Stubbs Lester.

Edwards also extended his congratulations to all the honorees. His message to them was this: “Be proud of your years of dedication, handwork, and good citizenship – we certainly are.”

The Hall of Fame is the only organization of its kind in Fayette County at the high school level. Its goal is to honor the high ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty in a rapidly changing community.

Tickets are $20 per person and are available at Fayette Sporting Goods and at the Principal’s Office at Fayette County High School.
