Two teachers at North Fayette Elementary are sporting shorter hairdos in an effort to help sick children.

Fourth grade teacher Katie Coke and fifth grade teacher Michelle Derichsweiler donated a total of 21 inches of hair to Locks of Love. Their hair will be used to create hair prosthetics for children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition.

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses help to restore self-esteem and confidence, enabling children to face the world and their peers.
