The summer of annexation has given way to the year of incorporation, if many of the residents of the proposed cities of South Fulton and Chattahoochee Hills have their way.

Latest of the list of venues proposing incorporation is a Feb. 12 public meeting at Cliftondale Community Center, sponsored by South Fulton Concerned Citizens (SFCC). The group is spearheading the effort to bring the new City of South Fulton into existence with the incorporation vote in June. The theme of the meeting and the incorporation movement is “Building a City.”

Unlike most public meetings in past months, the Feb. 12 event will feature only proponents of incorporation.

“We wanted a meeting to advance our position, our own forum with our own constituents,” said SFCC member Benny Crane. “We believe having the City of South Fulton is the only viable option.”

Crane said the meeting at Cliftondale will feature a panel of speakers from the Concerned Citizens group.

SFCC member Bruce Moody said he is expecting a large turnout for the informational meeting. Key issues, said Moody, are continuing annexations by cities bordering the new city and area residents’ right to self-determination.

Long-time south Fulton community activist Sandra Hardy agreed, saying SFCC wants to take the incorporation message to all citizens.

“Our citizens have a right to determine their future,” Hardy said. “Citizens need to see that our message fits into their future so they can come to their own conclusion.”

The Feb. 12 town hall meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Cliftondale Community Center located at 4399 Butner Road.
