E. Virginia Besszong, 89, Hogansville, died Jan. 31, 2007. She was born May 2, 1917 in Miami, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Susan Evans, brothers, Lewis Evans, and Homer Evans, Jr., sisters, Hattie Showalter, and Margie Desmond, and a son-in-law, Lyman P. McKenzie. She was a member of the Miami Edison High School Honor Cadets in honor of Amelia Earhart's flight around the world. She was a civil defense volunteer for the airplane and sonar detection team in World War II. Memorial services were at the Carmichael-Hemperley chapel. Survivors include her husband, John Mervin Besszong; a son, Roy Duncan and Molly Besszong; a daughter, Diane Lee McKenzie, Locust Grove; a sister, Ninalou Joann and John E. Brewer, Conyers; a sister-in-law, Gwen Evans, Westville, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, P. O. Box 931148,Norcross, GA 30003. Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge. login to post comments |
