Gwen Denham of Fayetteville, AARP 2936’s newest member, found that attending the chapter’s meeting on Jan. 16 was a good thing to do.

Imagine her surprise when she won the best door prize: roses developed exclusively for Rona’s Florist of Peachtree City. Rona’s donates the roses for each meeting’s give away.

Taking to heart the AARP’s national motto, “To make things better,” Fayette’s local chapter placed 18th out of 85 donors in the recent Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. Very impressive given that the participants were senior citizens. Active in the community, AARP 2936 contributed over 3,000 volunteer hours to various organizations during 2006.

AARP 2936 meets the third Wednesday of each month at the Heritage Bank on Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville. Come at 9:30 a.m. to meet and greet with the meeting beginning at 10 a.m.

The next meeting of AARP 2936 will be Feb. 21 featuring local author Emily Blake.
