The area wrestling tournaments will take place this weekend and local wrestlers and teams are expected to make a big splash on their way to the state tournament the following weekend.

Fayette County High School will host the area 2-AAAA tournament on Friday and Saturday. Wrestling gets underway on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday’s action should start around 9 a.m. Two teams to watch are Whitewater, which placed second in the state duals, and Starr’s Mill, which also made the state duals tournament. McIntosh and Fayette County also have a number of wrestlers who can make some noise and contend for an area title in their weight class.

Last weekend, Starr’s Mill wrestled in the North Metro Invitational. They had two weight class champions in the tournament; Jason Allen at 103 and Joseph Hoyt at 125. Kevin King at 152 placed third and Chris Sudduth at 171 placed fourth.

Sandy Creek will wrestle in the 6-AAA area tournament on Saturday at Cass High School. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m.

Landmark Christian and Our Lady of Mercy will wrestle in the 5-A area tournament at Social Circle on Friday and Saturday. Both schools competed at the Bowdon Invitational last weekend. Landmark’s Chad Thames and Mercy’s Clint Ford placed second and fourth respectively at 112.
