Season starts with top notch jamborees

The winter sports season isn’t over yet but the spring sports season will kick off in a big way this weekend.

Some of the highest ranked soccer teams in the state, many from this area, will begin the season with jamborees this Friday or Saturday.
Whitewater’s girls, ranked fifth at the end of last season and sixth to start this season, will host Newnan, McIntosh and Starr’s Mill on Friday with games beginning at 5:30 p.m. McIntosh placed second in AAAA last year and is ranked second to start the season. Starr’s Mill won the AAAAA state championship and is ranked third in AAAA this year. Newnan is ranked fourth in AAAAA.

Whitewater’s boys, ranked fourth in the state at the end of last year in AAAA and ranked third this season, will host Walton, ranked first in AAAAA this season, and Starr’s Mill, ranked sixth, on Saturday. They will take on Walton at noon and Starr’s Mill at 1 p.m.

McIntosh’s boys, ranked seventh in the state last season and fourth this season, will travel to St. Pius on Saturday to take on St. Pius, Parkview and Brookwood. Brookwood is ranked fourth in AAAAA, Parkview is ranked seventh and St. Pius is ranked fourth in AAAA.

The season gets officially underway next week.
On Tuesday, Fayette County’s boys will host Meadowcreek at 6 p.m. McIntosh’s boys and girls will play at Heritage with the girls playing at 5:30 p.m. and the boys playing at 7:30 p.m. Sandy Creek will play at Central, Carrollton Games start at 5:30 p.m.

Starr’s Mill’s girls will play at Walton on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and the boys will play at Walton on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Whitewater’s boys will play at Banneker on Monday at 5:30 p.m. and the girls will play at Lovett on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Lovett is ranked third in AA/A.
