If all the soil testing turns out correctly, the Fayette County School system may have found the site for its second new elementary school.

The Board of Education voted Monday night to enter into a contract with ARC Enterprises to purchase 30 acres at the intersection of Sandy Creek Road and Tillman Road, about a mile north of Piedmont Fayette Hospital. The board is paying $25,000 an acre for a total purchase price of $750,000 for the land located in the center of the county.

Included in the contract is a stipulation that the deal must close before May 31. If the deal is consummated, the school would be the first non-residential development in the large swath of land that still remains undeveloped in the county’s midsection.

In other news, the board proposed naming the new elementary school in the southern end of the county Inman Elementary. School spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach said the proposal will be the table for 30 days and come up for a final vote at the board’s March meeting.
