Accounting student is honored by CPAs

The Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA) has honored one of Fayette’s future aspiring accountants.

Mercedes Ferguson, an 11th grader at Sandy Creek High, was the guest of honor at the GSCPA 2007 High School Honors Luncheon. John Bowen, a business education teacher, nominated Mercedes for her outstanding work in accounting.

To qualify for nomination, students must be rising high school seniors with a 3.0 or better GPA, college bound and demonstrate an interest in business as a career.

“Mercedes fit these qualifications and more and was very excited to be chosen,” says school counselor Tere Goodwin.

While at the luncheon, Mercedes had the opportunity to talk to accounting and financial business representatives currently working in the field. The representatives answered questions and highlighted the wide variety of careers available in the accounting profession. Mercedes attended the luncheon with her mother, Florencine Rolle, and Goodwin.
