Band students make history twice

An unprecedented 36 students at Fayette Middle qualified for the state-level auditions for the Middle School All-State Band sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA).

This marks the second consecutive year that Fayette Middle has had the most students in Georgia selected to advance to the state-level auditions to vie for an opportunity to perform in the prestigious band that showcases the best and most talented young musicians in Georgia.

“We are extremely proud of our students and their hard work. To have the most students in Georgia going to the state auditions is a true testament of the talents of our students and their band director Ricky Williams,” says Principal Sharlene Patterson.

Following the state auditions, Fayette Middle had 14 students, including three alternates, selected for inclusion in the All State program, more than any other middle school in the county. A total of 28 middle school students, plus five alternates, representing all five of the county’s middle schools will participate in the 2007 All State Band in Savannah, Georgia March 1-3.

Selection for the All State Band is no easy task. Students must audition for an invitation to participate, once at the district level, and then if they score high enough, again at the state level.
