Coweta county’s newest water resource should be up and running in March.

That’s the word from County Administrator Theron Gay who said the B.T. Brown Reservoir in the northwestern part of the county will provide the county with added water for the growth that is on its way.

The treatment plant has a capacity of six million gallons a day, but Gay said initially, the plant will supply about two million gallons a day and increase its production as the summer season approaches.

The county currently purchases water from Newnan Utilities, the city of Atlanta and Griffin, and Gay said the county’s peak water usage during summer is about six million gallons a day.

The plant cost just over $13 million and was financed by revenue bonds, The costs will be paid back by water customers and Gay emphasized that no taxpayer funds would be used to pay for the plant.

“We’re happy to see it getting underway,” he added.
