The first development in the huge tract of land in Fayette’s center could be a new school.

School spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach confirmed Tuesday the Board of Education has entered into a contract to purchase 30 acres at the intersection of Sandy Creek Road and Tillman Road to build a new elementary school that would open in 2009.

The new school will be financed by the bond vote passed by voters in 2004 and will mark the end of the new schools financed by the $65 million bond.

If all goes as expected, it would be the third school to open in three years. The new Bennett’s Mill Middle School will open this fall, while a new elementary school is set to open at Ga. Highway 92 and Inman road in August 2008.
