When the Career and Technical Education Department (CTE) at Whitewater High went looking for a way to build a scholarship fund for their students while giving them some hands-on work experience, their ideas turned to a prom fashion show.

Over 250 CTE students are in the process of planning, coordinating and marketing the show, “A Night of Elegance,” on January 27 at 7 p.m., at the Whitewater High auditorium.

Each class in the department has taken on roles and duties to execute the show based on their specialty. Business and marketing is handling all promotion of the event, Family and Consumer Science is coordinating behind the scenes operations and serving refreshments, Automotive is constructing sets, Technology is handling the audio and video aspects and Healthcare Science is coordinating the models.

“This is working out to be a great experience for our students. My classes are learning how to really market an event by contacting local newspapers and putting out flyers,” says Krystin Glover, business and marketing teacher.

The department hopes to raise $2,500. All of the proceeds will be used to fund a scholarship for one student from each of the CTE classes.

In addition to seeing the latest in prom fashion, the department says they hope to draw a crowd to the show with the reigning Miss Georgia 2007, Brittany Swann, a Fayette County native who will be serving as emcee for the evening.

Tickets are $7 in advance and can be purchased at the school. Price of admission will be $10 at the door.
