St. Basil’s Day celebration held at St. Christopher’s

Very Rev. Father George Tsahakis, Chancellor, welcomed a crowd of some 100-plus parishioners, friends and special guests of St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church to the Fourth Annual St. Basil’s Day (Vasilopita) Dinner on Saturday, Jan. 6 at the Fayette Family YMCA.

Tsahakis offered prayers over the loaves of decorated home baked breads, each with a silver or gold coin baked inside.

Sheryl Vasiliadis explained the history of the Academy of St. Basil in Garrison, N.Y., philanthropy of the Philoptochos Society who sponsored the evening’s event.

B.J. Spanos and Cynthia Cromartie served as co-chairs and Spanos also served as emcee for the evening.

After the meal, 30 loaves of bread were auctioned and all proceeds will be sent to the Academy of St. Basil.

Charlie Lungaro was auctioneer. Greek dancing took place and young and old alike took part.

St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church was founded in October, 2003. Orthros is celebrated each Sunday at 7:45 a.m followed by the Divine Liturgy at 9 a.m. Services are held at the church on 313 Dividend Drive in Peachtree City
