The Fayette County Animal Shelter will join paws with the Helen Woodward Animal Center, Iams and more than 2,000 other shelters in the 2005 “Home 4 the Holidays” campaign. The event, which will last the whole month of December, hopes to link more than 350,000 dog, cats, puppies and kittens, and other companions pets nationwide with loving adoptive families.

Locally, the Fayette County Animal Shelter is hoping to find homes for over 225 homeless pets throughout the month. The staff’s goal is to send every adoptable and available animal home this season, by providing the best gift an indigent animal can have, a loving family.

To compliment “Home 4 the Holidays,” the Shelter, at 1262 Ga. Highway 74 South, is planning to host several events and pet adoption incentives, including two free Pet Trainer Question & Answer Sessions for problematic behaviors and other pet issues. The sessions are offered by Jana Sellers, a local trainer and shelter volunteer who apprenticed under the guide dog program Canine Vision. Anyone experiencing problems with their existing pet, or looking to avoid issues with their newly acquired pet is welcome to attend on either of the two dates offered, Dec. 1 and 15, at 7:30 p.m.

The Shelter is happy to announce that they will again be providing a special adoption day to accommodate last-minute shoppers and, of course, Santa. This special opening is scheduled Saturday, Dec. 24 from 11 a.m-2 p.m. The shelter is regularly open Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m.-2 p.m. (except on observed holidays).

To promote good ownership and provide even further incentive to adopt from the shelter, all adoption during the month of December will receive two gift packs and new pet owner materials.
