• Andrew Arnold, Brian New, Jessica Aktabowski, Robert Hancock and Stacy Riddell, all of Fayette County, were named to the fall semester dean’s merit list at Gordon College. A student must have a grade point average of 3.50 for 10 or 11 semester hours in order to be named to the dean’s merit list. Gordon College, located in Barnesville, Ga., is a state college offering more than 60 programs of study to 3,600 students.

• Brittany Vernon, Carolina McFarlin, Catherine Talley, Jared Smith, Rashann Treherne, Ashley Chancellor, Ashley Harmon, Ashley Mixon, Avril Hardy, Joseph Thomas, Julie McEachern, Marissa Young, Adam Bashakes, Carley Kleckner, Charles Hudson, Daniel Ruy, Wesley Rogers, Whitney Kammerich, William Ames, Krisa Uy and David Rossey, all of Fayette County, were named to the fall semester dean’s list at Gordon College. A student must have a grade point average of 3.50 for 12 or more semester hours in order to be named to the dean’s list. • Several area residents were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Samford University. They include: Lydia Ellen Myers, Katelin Elizabeth Sellers, Kathryn Lauren Underwood and Taylor Dickinson Webb from Fayetteville; Amberleigh MacKenzie Kirk, Julianne Janell Parsons, Erin Margaret Ramsey and Jenna Leigh Sturgill, from Peachtree City; and Robert Trevor Moore of Sharpsburg. To qualify for the honor, a student must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework. The dean’s list is Samford’s highest academic recognition given at the end of each semester. Samford, Alabama’s largest privately supported college or university, enrolls 4,478 students from 49 states and 27 foreign nations.

• On Dec. 16, 2006 Joshua Martin graduated summa cum laude from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. having completed all requirements for a bachelor of science in aeronautical science. He is a 2002 graduate of Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone and a 2004 graduate of Georgia Aviation and Technical College in Eastman where he acquired his flight instructor certificate with commercial and instrument ratings in both rotary and fixed wing aircraft. He is the son of long time Tyrone residents, Gerry and Jamie Martin.
