Creekside High School is pleased to be a part of National Mentoring Month 2007, a month-long campaign dedicated to recruiting caring adult mentors for America's youth. Research has shown that programs that rely on volunteer mentors can play a powerful role in reducing drug abuse and youth violence, while greatly enhancing a young person's prospects for leading a healthy and productive life.

The Harvard Mentoring Project and Mentor/National Mentoring Partnership are leading the NMM 2007 effort, which aims to raise awareness of the various forms of mentoring and recruit individuals in the community to mentor and promote the rapid growth of mentoring in our community and across the nation.

National Mentoring Month 2007 is a collaborative, public-private initiative sponsored by nonprofit organizations, media companies and government agencies. National media partners include ABC (Disney), CBS (Viacom), Fox (News Corp.), NBC (GE), and several divisions of AOL Time Warner.

Creekside High School is supporting this national effort by hosting a mentor program kick-off--Luncheon event on Thursday, January 25, 2007 from 12-2 p.m. All mentors or potential mentors and business partners are invited to celebrate with Creekside as they launch their first community-wide inaugural “Mentor Thank-You Day” Celebration. Creekside is located at 7405 Herndon Road, Fairburn, Ga. For more information please contact Maria Pinkston, Mentor Coordinator or Myrtle Von Odom Partners Coordinator at 770-306-4300, Ext 148.

“Having been mentored, becoming a mentor, and now a mentoring program coordinator, I am excited about the opportunity to bring a mentors to Creekside High School students. We are especially honored to have a celebrity mentor, Ron DeVoe, from the renowned R&B groups, New Edition and Bell, Biv, DeVoe—along with others from his real estate team – DeVoe Broker Associates. They have pledged to give their time and resources to help make a difference in the lives of our students. I encourage all interested persons to call us for more information on how they can become a part of a program that has the potential to positively impact the entire south Fulton community,” said Pinkston.

Creekside High School is dedicated to supporting the effort to recruit mentors for the youth of Creekside High. Everyone benefits when our young people are prepared for the future.
