Helen Byrd Ponder, 82, Fayetteville, died Jan. 6, 2007. She was born Jan. 12, 1925 in Fulton County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Ponder, and a sister, Doris Brantley. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Graveside services were at Forest lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park, with the Rev. Wally Woodcock and Warren Cheely officiating. Survivors include sons, Gary and Patricia Ponder, Lilburn, and Greg Ponder, Jonesboro; a daughter, Linda and Richard Cheely, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Chris Ponder, Steve Ponder, and Warren Cheely; and a sister, Vivian Parkerson. Memorial donations may be made to Southwest Christian Hospice, 7225 Lester Rd., Union City, GA 30291. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
