The price of copper is up and thieves wanting to make an easy buck are cashing in. But police investigating the thefts are making headway with catching those wanting a quick profit on the shiny metal.

Fairburn Police Jan. 8 arrested 18 year-old Fairburn resident Jason Hamby on burglary charges relating to the Dec. 14 theft of approximately $650 of copper wire from a truck at the city warehouse, according to Det. Dave Bedford.

Bedford said Hambry admitted to stealing the copper wire. Bedford said investigators are looking at other thefts of copper wire in the area.

The arrest in Fairburn comes only weeks after Timothy Foster, 23, of Palmetto was charged with burglary, criminal damage to property and theft by taking in two business burglaries in Palmetto. One of the burglaries included the theft of 500 pounds of copper wire, said Palmetto Det. John Cooper.
