State Sen. Ronnie Chance (R-Tyrone) has been appointed Chairman of the newly created Senate Government Oversight Committee by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. The Senate Government Oversight Committee is the newest standing committee in the body, which will be responsible for holding hearings, if necessary, on issues of concern within the state government. He also will continue serving as secretary of the Senate Finance Committee.

“Sen. Chance has been a dedicated public servant and his hard work shows by his appointment to these integral Senate Committees,” said Lt. Gov. Cagle. “I look forward to working with him as we continue to serve together in the state Senate.”

Chance will continue to serve on the influential Senate Higher Education Committee, along with his positions on the Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee and Economic Development Committee.

“I am honored to be granted this Chairmanship by Lieutenant Governor Cagle,” Sen. Chance said after receiving his assignments. “By creating this committee, Lieutenant Governor Cagle has shown once more that he is committed to open and honest governance for Georgia, and I will do my best to help our committee fulfill that mission by uncovering and eliminating waste, fraud or abuse that might be present in our state government.”

In May 2006, Sen. Chance was named one of three administration floor leaders in the Senate by Gov. Sonny Perdue. This prestigious appointment means that Sen. Chance will carry Gov. Perdue’s legislation to the Senate floor, and work closely with the Governor throughout the legislative process.

Sen. Chance was elected to the Georgia Senate in 2004. On Monday, January 8, he was officially sworn in for his second term as the state Senator representing the 16th Senate District. The 16th District includes parts of Fayette, Monroe and Spalding Counties and all of Pike and Lamar Counties.

Sen. Chance grew up in south Fayette County and attended Brooks Elementary School, Fayette County High School and Georgia State University’s School of Business. He is married to the former Cressida Stevens of Gloucestershire, England. The Chances have one daughter, Ellia, and currently reside in Tyrone. They are members of Peachtree City United Methodist Church.
