Laura Loving's "Queen of the Tulips"

An artist with Fayette connections is making a colorful splash in Atlanta. Artist Laura Loving, from Fayetteville, Ga., is now exhibiting a selection or her original paintings and decorative ceramic tiles at Saks Fifth Avenue in Atlanta through February 9. Loving’s art has been featured in The Citizen on several occassions in the past.

The exhibit is a preview to The Trinity School's annual fundraiser, Spotlight on Art, sponsored by Saks Fifth Avenue. Saks Fifth Avenue is located at 3440 Peachtree Road in Phipps Plaza and open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Spotlight on Art is the Trinity School’s acclaimed art event and fundraiser. Now in its 26th year, Spotlight on Art is considered to be one of the top elementary school fund raisers in the country. Proceeds from the event will fund Trinity School student financial aid and continuing education for teachers. A donation will be made to the non-profit organization African Children’s Art Project. In this non-profit group, Kenyan children ages 5 to 16 – many orphans – create colorful, vibrant works of art to raise money for their school. Following the Saks Fifth Avenue preview, the Spotlight on Art artist market will be held Feb. 13-17 at the Trinity School’s campus, located at 4301 Northside Parkway. The artist market will feature more than 7,500 pieces of fine and decorative arts, crafts, jewelry and garden decorations from 300 established and emerging artists. Visit www.spotlightonart.com for additional information and schedule.

Laura Loving received her bachelor of fine arts from the University of Georgia. Painting with enamel on canvas, she has developed a distinctive style consisting of bold lines, dramatic surface patterns and pure color that result in vibrant paintings with a certain poetic energy. “My paintings are an invention of reality rather than purely an exact imitation. I exaggerate color and shape to create art that is humorous, alive and uplifting. Without question, I believe making a connection with someone through a painting is the best part of being an artist,” Loving said.

Loving has exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the United States and abroad. In New York, she has shown at Lincoln Center’s Cork Gallery, Pratt Institute, Strut Gallery and Anthem Gallery. In 2005, she was hired to create the artwork for the Fall Cabaret Convention at Jazz at Lincoln Center. In Europe, she has shown with the Wonderwall Gallery in Cirencester, England, and Chaleurs du Sud in Nice, France. In Atlanta, Loving was commissioned to create the official serigraph for the 1998 Music Midtown Festival. The Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Fla., has acquired several of her paintings for their permanent collection.

Loving currently resides in New York City and finds the "energy of the city" makes it a dynamic and exciting place to live and work. For additional information and to see more of Loving’s work, visit her Web site, www.LauraLoving.com.
