Julianne Janell Parsons of Peachtree City, Ga. was inducted into the Samford University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi honor society during the fall semester. Phi Kappa Phi, Samford’s highest honor society, recognizes superior achievement in all academic disciplines. Members include undergraduate and graduate students, and faculty/professional staff members. Samford, Alabama’s largest privately supported college or university, enrolls 4,478 students from 49 states and 27 nations. Parsons is a senior exercise science and sports medicine major.

• Air Force Airman David C. Nash has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of James and Susan Nash of Fayetteville, Ga. and a 2005 graduate of Fayette County High School, Fayetteville.

• Promise Place, the Fayette County Council on Domestic Violence, recognized Heidi Becker at their annual Christmas party for her commitment to the organization and her hours of volunteer work over the past four years. The party, with over 75 in attendance, was held at Chip's Tyrone Depot and included victims and their children as well as volunteers, board members and sponsors. Promise Place provides services to over 1,200 men, women and children who are victims of domestic abuse in the Griffin Judicial District each year. Volunteers are always needed to answer the crisis line, work in the office, help with fundraising events and with the Teen Dating Violence classes that are taught throughout the Fayette County schools. Currently, plans are in place to open the first ever emergency shelter in Fayette County in 2007. To find out more about Promise Place, to volunteer or to make a donation call 770-460-1604.
